21 pupils
from Trafford schools have been enjoying the benefits of top quality
cricket coaching at Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC).
The talented
young cricketers received a 10-week programme which aimed to enhance
their batting, bowling and fielding skills. This was a pilot programme
for talented cricketers under the umbrella of study support, organised
and delivered through a partnership between Trafford School Improvement
Service and LCCC.
The pupils
were put through their paces by ECB coaches including ex Lancashire
player Nathan Wood and they are now receiving coaching back in school.
In addition, the coaches are working alongside PE staff in order to
further develop strategies for the teaching of talented cricketers
in school. There is also the opportunity to foster closer links with
local cricket clubs.
As a direct
follow up to the programme, trials are being held this term for talented
young cricketers in Years 5 and 8 from Trafford Schools. This is with
the aim of forming district under 11 and under 14 teams in the summer
of 2003. Once again, squad members will attend LCCC to develop their
cricketing skills. Thus providing each player with a quality approach
to the game of cricket supported by the resources of a first class
club.
Pupils
attended the programme from Stretford Grammar, Stretford High Community
Language College, Seymour Park, Kings Road and Gorse Hill.
