Arran
of England

Pupils
from Highfield School recently welcomed an international cricketing
star to one of their Study Support sessions at Lancashire County Cricket
Club.
Arran Thompson
the Lancashire and England Womens player fielded questions from the
12 enthusiastic interviewees regarding her background and lifestyle
as a cricketer at the highest level.
The questions
were many and varied, and it was an interesting and hectic 45 minutes!
Arran told
of how she became interested in cricket after going to games with her
dad. In fact, she picked up a bat in anger for the first time aged just
six. She then progressed to playing for a club at the age of 11 and
it was only 7 years later when she represented her country.
The lifestyle
of an international cricketer was also explored. Arran attends training
sessions 6 times a week and has to keep to a strict diet. Although Arran
has to watch what she eats (no chocolate I'm afraid) she does get the
chance to sample such delights as syrup on toast!
This proved
to be an enjoyable session for all at the LCCC cricket in Education
Centre

These are
exciting times for he young people and staff from the Cricket in Education
Centre as they are also leading the way in nationwide cricket circles.
Following on from their successful publication, 'Fun Runs' at last year's
Old Trafford Test Match they have produced a number of activities for
the ECB booklet 'Sticky Wickets'. This booklet is being promoted in
all the country's primary schools and was given out as part of a package
to all young people who attended this summer's Test Matches.
